‘Berlin Sky II’, 2012. Photograph - Limited Edition of 10

The series of CLOUDscapes tries to capture the sculptures forming every day above our heads. Being fascinated by the shape of clouds, their immense size compared to the small places they are travelling over and the fragility of their being, I developed these photographs. In the first stage, the eye is directed by playing with an artificial depth of field to create an intensification inside the frame that enables it to guide the viewer's eye movement across the image. In the next stage, I continue to manipulate the photos by blurring their shapes direction-wise following their motion and exaggerating the effect. In the last stage, I finalise the previous procedures by painting over the images inside a digital editing software stressing certain found traits and being interested in a way of photography that comes closer to painting than mere reproduction. The resulting photographs stand between painting and photography, between figurative and abstract, trying to recreate a feeling of awe.
