About The Artwork

The Union Pacific Big Boy is a type of simple articulated 4-8-8-4 steam locomotive manufactured by the American Locomotive Company between 1941 and 1944 and operated by the Union Pacific Railroad in revenue service until 1959. The 25 Big Boy locomotives were built to haul freight over the Wasatch mountains between Ogden, Utah, and Green River, Wyoming. In the late 1940s, they were reassigned to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they hauled freight over Sherman Hill to Laramie, Wyoming. They were the only locomotives to use a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement: four-wheel leading truck for stability entering curves, two sets of eight driving wheels and a four-wheel trailing truck to support the large firebox. Eight Big Boys survive, most on static display at museums across the country. One of them, No. 4014, was re-acquired by Union Pacific and restored to operating condition in 2019, regaining the title as the largest and most powerful operating steam locomotive in the world. Many thanks to Adam Burch and Hangar B Productions for their assistance in this rendition. Photographic image copyright 2019 Jon Burch Photography

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Photography is all about using light to capture the emotion and the beauty of a fleeting moment. For me, this adventure began with a single spring image using a small Kodak film camera of a freshly watered central Kansas ditch and has come full circle using modern digital techniques. My first camera was acquired by trading an ancient Royal typewriter to a fellow college student who was desperate to finish a term paper. It was a long time ago and that camera was my passport to an art that has fascinated me ever since. I owned and operated a professional photography studio for 20 years. Part of the studio's early success came from creating outdoor portraiture using controlled lighting that my clients were used to seeing only in studio-produced images. In addition to portraits of all types, business and corporate, family, glamour, bridal, and high school seniors, the studio's operations included a video recording studio and an on-site color production lab that produced award-winning, heritage-quality color portraits. Photographs are little slices of time. I offer only top quality images for your enjoyment and inspection. Discover the difference; I am available for assignment.
