I remember my first time getting off the Peak chair on the top of Whistler Mountain. Looking at Black Tusk from far away it made me feel small and insignificant due to it's majesty and timelessness. As I stared at Black Tusk across the valley for multiple years, I knew I had to photograph it. The intention behind it was to give the mountain the justice that it deserves. I knew that capturing the shot with a long lens, across the valley from afar, wouldn’t do the job, I had to get up close and personal. This particular angle is not widely shot because it’s incredibly hard to get to. After several unsuccessful flights, we took off once again on April 16th, 2018. The weather and visibility were quite bad that day but there was a chance of a short window towards the end of the flight. We were photographing Brandywine first and realized how quickly we were running out of time. Upon asking the pilot to rush to Black Tusk, I saw the sun starting to come out. Once we arrived I had about 12 minutes of perfect light before the sun disappeared. After a few passes I knew we got something special. As one of my photography colleagues says “big cigar type of a day.” Up to this day, It still remains one of my all-time favorite days in the mountain.​​ Printed on Epson Legacy Platine archival paper.
