About The Artwork

Casus Nietzsche series. The Dawn. We used the title of the book by Friedrich Nietzsche for the symbolic description of the dawn of mankind, aimed at opening a new and fearless flight into the unknown. Flying posture of our heroine, proud turn of her head and the position of wide-open arms create a heroic picture of the conquest of the universe. The model seems to be inviting to participate in the great events connected with the dawn, and the great hope. However, the expansion of horizons is never given easily and one flying too close to the sun risks burning ones wings and falling from the height. In which space our model goes and to where she directs her flight? Who is she – the conqueror of space, mysterious astronaut, whose life as an arrow is pointing at the sun? Or is she a tragic Icarus, crucified on the wings of her own destiny? Like all the works in this series, “Aurora” is set in the dynamic confrontation lines of the human body and abstract background of geometric shapes. But in this case the background shapes almost repeat the dynamic posture of the human figure, settling down behind the human body and leading the body lines to the purity of simple abstractions. Meaning centers of the work are the blue triangle and the yellow circle. Their colors are contrasting, as well as their shapes are incompatible. Blue triangle sets the diagonal movement up and to the right, acting in consonance with the direction of motion of the hands and eyes, supporting the heroic gesture of the model. The yellow circle is the goal of her view, the purpose of the motion and the figure attacked by the triangle. Co-location of the two figures in the space of the piece creates a stress that is heroic and tragic at the same time; reddish background color contributes to this feeling. Everyone can press the camera's shutter button and take a picture, but does that mean that now we are able to better express our view on the world? Although it is assumed that the photo can correctly display three-dimensional world, it can not, and every photographer knows that the point of shooting, along with lighting, determines how the photo will look. Simple changing of focus' depth changes perception. The point of view travelling in three dimensions gives a lot of possibilities from which some one only realizes in a photograph. Throughout its history, painting has developed a lot of two-dimensional illusion of three-dimensionality, but none of them is not final. You can always go beyond what was suggested yesterday. Plane has its own graphic will and its demands to the painting. We are moving from photography to painting, developing new parallel ways of understanding the three-dimensional world in applying it onto a two-dimensional surface. Artistic field that we study is how to conclude a photographic image within the two-dimensional pictorial object. We consider photography as a starting point and premise work to change perceptions. Photography is only a starting point for changing the spatial structures which break down into simple planar components and then continue to change under the influence of different visual techniques. http://sophievital.wordpress.com/
