Cephalopoda III: Nuance de rêves, 2020 chromogenic print on archival paper derived from a Polaroid negative edition of 3 27” x 20” Cephalopoda: Nuance de rêves shows Steben’s continued use of Polaroids as a medium and his research of historical figures. He found inspiration in 19th-century Japanese woodblock art, gothic architecture, and the story of Ophelia. In this series, we see an exploration of our human and nature relationship. The image depicts a woman being submerged underwater by the limbs of an octopus around her neck. An almost violent act at first glance, her expression is however serene. The blossoms frame the image symbolizing life, death, and renewal ultimately adding to her dreamlike state. For more details/inquiries visit
