About The Artwork

City Breakfast. ^ Click on Prints (next to where it says Original) to see the canvas print details ^ An early morning start to visit London was the inspiration for this picture. Having travelled to the city over many years, it seemed appropriate to capture an early morning experience., whether that was for work or leisure. The picture depicts a breakfast scene with various items (hand coffee grinder, coffee pot, cup and saucer, egg, jug) seen from various aspects using the principles of 20th century cubism. A window is shown with a view out to one of London’s iconic landmarks, London Bridge. My artwork explores the cross-overs between photography, collage, digital art and cubist paintings as a way of capturing memories and imagination. The pictures are created using a pen and ink style digitally, based upon my own photographs, and are printed with high-definition inks on stretched canvas. Expressionist principles like abstraction and false colour have been used to help the viewer imagine the scene, rather than pictorial realism characteristic of traditional photographs. This particular arrangement uses many of the concepts portrayed by cubist painters of the early 20th century to fragment the scene.

I help bring interest to interior spaces through creative and dramatic fine art pictures. I have been a creator all my life from a childhood with construction toys and later as a professional engineer. Having been gifted my first camera in 1969, I have maintained an interest in photography since then, studying the subject more seriously in recent years. I specialise in capturing ordinary subjects and making them extra ordinary using closeups, lighting, colour or editing to help create mood, inspiration, or interesting talking points. I have a passion for taking time to notice the natural beauty that surrounds us, from the depths of space to the small creatures sharing our lives. In my work I try to encourage the viewer to see the ‘everyday’ in a new light by emphasising the extraordinary nature of its complexity or including it an arrangement to suggest an idea or a concept.
