About The Artwork

"Columbia" is the largest fine art photography of the Transition Loss series and one of the most vital artworks in the edition. With a surreal moment, the undefined story, but therefore the great storytelling between the lines, Sebastian Siebel is able to tell intense moments with only a few characters. The intense lighting of a famous building in berlin completely changes the scenery and people knowing the location are always overwhelmed about the absolute incomparable mood. The person sitting and acting on the stone object is a direct opponent to the architectural brutalism and the eagle on the left. Besides his smallness he dominates the picture in an intense way. Between a harlekin or an almost childish observer of the moment, he intensifies the drama. No one can oversee his power and his movements even though he‘s seen from a distance. Columbia is a great example of the power darkness and light can have and about the artistic values of Sebastian Siebel‘s work. Edition 2/3 The surreal moment, the playfulness between lightness and dark matter, the complete lack of a background story creates a momentum of drama. People, from a distance, seem from a world in between. Sebastian Siebel's production sets are always intense, created over a long period and with a team of set builders, assistants and many actors and actresses. The photographies, although happening on the streets or in abandoned factories and public buildings, are far away from quick street photographies. Moreover everything you see on set is handcrafted during the creative process. In "Transition Loss" things are happening, stories will be continued. People are in the centre, but part of a much larger emotion: the transition from one place to another. Every photography he creates is part of a long journey and influenced by more than a decade long work as the lighting artist for the greatest photographers & cinematographers of all time: Michael Ballhaus & Peter Lindbergh, Annie Leibovitz and Jim Rakete, Mario Testino and Glen Luchford. Printed on Alu-Dibond. Large Format. High Quality Photography.
