Commerce Works and Bottle Ovens across Longton Photograph - Limited Edition of 50

Part of a project documenting the remaining forty seven bottle ovens and bottle kilns in the Stoke-on-Trent area. At its height, the area had over 2000 bottle kilns manufacturing all things pottery and ceramics. These familiar structures are a reminder to anyone from North Staffordshire of a bygone era that was dogged by a hard life but reminisced and romanticised by anyone related to this beautiful industry. Commerce Works dates back to 1796. Behind you can see Gladstone and Roslyn Works giving an impression of how busy the skyline was back in the day. And all overlooked by the fantastic silhouette of St James' Church
