United Kingdom
Emanuela Franchini was born in Genoa, Italy in 1971. A move to Milan to attend the School for Interpreters and Translators in 1991 did not deter her passion for photography and she continued to explore her creativity amidst her translation studies. A move to London in 1999 fueled her existing passion for photography and she began working with an advertising agency, exploring and developing her visual creativity which led her to experiment with the art of self portraiture focusing on everyday life with a twist. In July 2007 her passion began to pay dividends and her image entitled "Cheap 70's Porn ", a self portrait, was used by the New York band The Strokes for the homepage of their website. In a tide of interest that ensued, she delighted in the 2008 Sony World Photography Awards selecting her image "Low Tide" across their website to advertise the photographic award. In 2008 three of her images were published in the October and December issues of the online art magazine Platform58 and the Canadian online magazine Toro Magazine have published an interview together with some of her self portraits in the January 2009 issue. In a striking contrast that befits her paradoxical nature, she is the official photographer for the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League (RCEL) at the Field of Remembrance and at the private conference at Canada House with Prince Philip which happens once a year. In February 2009 Emanuela has been commissioned by the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League to shoot a portrait of Prince Philip with the RCEL staff. 2009 and demand for her compositions increases as seven of her images have been published in an art booklet by Signum Art Publishing (Italy). She has been part of a joint exhibition with the photographer Cristina Cocullo entitled "Heterological Boundaries" at the Mayfair Library, London during March-April 2009. Recently new works have been added to "Heterological Boundaries" giving the opportunity to show more material this time at the Foundry in London during October 2009. During November/December 2009 she has been part of the group exhibition "Telling Tales" at the Mayfair Library in London. In June 2010 one of her self portraits, "Two Feet of Water", has been selected to be part of the exhibition "Io. Mi Vedo Cosi'" (That's How I See Myself) organised by CIFA (Italian Photography Association).
