Corvus corone Photograph - Limited Edition of 7

From 'The Bumforth Manor' Collection, - 'Corvus corone', Edition no.4 of 20. In this series I make photographic work as my Victorian great grandfather, the inventor, eccentric & photographic pioneer Samuel Heracles Gascoigne-Simpson. The inspiration for this particular picture comes from the stories I write regarding my family history. As with most of my images, there is strong element of narrative running through them, but rather than simply reveal that with a written description, I prefer to leave an element of mystery for the viewer to develop their own theory as to what might be going on, but suffice to say, this picture depicts the children's governess 'Marie-Anne' as a bird,a vision from a dream that both my great grandfather and I shared across the ages.
