Curving Into Combustion - Limited Edition 1 of 200 Photograph

This first artistic print really leads the Urban Fire series, as it is made up of different areas of the City Hall building in London. I really wanted to completely transform this already 'alien' like piece of architecture into something completely unrecognisable. The original photograph upon which this final print was taken on a cloudy day, and I loved the contrast of the clouds against the buildings in London. I felt that this combination really needed to be presented in a new and provocative way, in order to really inject a feeling of fire engulfing the once calm skies. The final abstract spherical object that created can be interpreted in many different ways due to its abstract shape. However, as the City Hall building metaphorically represents the heart of London, the print's title alludes to London's heart being at the epicentre of the fiery city. The original photographs were taken at the PriceWaterhouseCoopers building that is located by the River Thames. I found that the cutting detail of this structure, and the way it flows up in the image, reminded me off a spiral staircase curving upwards into the sky. To me these connecting curves connect the two opposing sides of the structure, thereby producing a powerful force which creates this multi-tonal and radiant sky. The commanding shadows of the structure set against the riveting elemental clouds completely transforms this once ordinary building into something that is truly spectacular to behold.
