Painted Lady, Vanessa cardui . Detail of the eyes on the lower hind wing using a macro lens with an extension. The image was part of the collection, Icarus which exhibited in Foto Skoda Prague in 2011. Daedalus and his son were imprisoned in Crete after the construction of the Labyrinth. To escape, Daedalus made wings for himself and Icarus. However, Icarus ventured too close to the sun and his wings melted and he fell into the sea. Myth tries to explain human existence and psychological truths. The more you contemplate the myth of Icarus, the more interpretations you might discover. The cycle of photos were placed in a clockwork mosaic using different sizes so that there was a cycle of regeneration apparent. Butterflies are more closely related to transformation myths than dragonflies, but all insects go through a cycle of transformation from larvae to adults. To a viewer, maybe these are bugs, but to another perhaps they find deeper symbolic meaning and beauty.
