About The Artwork

Statement: Occasionally we may spring an emotional leak. This is okay when it happens in private, but becomes complicated when in public. Feelings of shame, weakness, ridicule and criticism might accompany these moments, but it is important to understand that the expression is not a sign of weakness or failure, but a sign of emotional health. Description: I realise that the austere structure is in direct contrast to the title and statement of this piece, but I believe it to be relevant. Our culture, and consequently we, place a lot of pressure on ourselves to appear strong and confident when in-fact what makes us beautifully human is our moments of sensitivity. Material printed on: Fine-Art Giclee Canvas | Fine-Art Giclee Paper | Diasec.

I was born and raised in Vanderbijlpark, a small town in the Gauteng Provence of South Africa, in 1969. It's a heavily industrialised area where the sky is pale, grey, or brown. Not knowing what I wanted to do with my life, a friend suggested I further my education in photography. It was then that I found an outlet to the pressing need for expression, without the misunderstood external gesticulations that limit the souls' expression. The purpose behind my work is to share what I have learned, i.e. with every experience, the good and the bad, life loves, teaches, incubates, protects, nurtures, and sets us free to live and prosper if we so choose. At the age of 48, I left my hometown and moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where I currently reside, and the sky is always blue.
