According to the Theory of Special (Restricted) Relativity, “in a moving system time passes at a speed 60% slower with respect to a system at rest.” This is verified when it is measured in terms of the speed of light. Every physicist will tell you that the effects of relativity are not perceived by the human eye … In this sense photography can help us because it is produced using light, and can be considered our own instrument of measurement. I imagine two people drawing closer to each other after having lived separately for such a long time and in different places. In the place where they meet again their ‘timing’ will now correspond; they cross each other’s paths, seek each other’s company and meet up. I wonder whether the magic they experience is due to a sensation that in a sudden, fleeting moment the personal flow of time coincides, and there is an encounter between two separate ‘times’. If I have the possibility to observe this effect in light years, I want to believe I can perceive it in a gesture that lasts a fraction of a second. However, at that point it will no longer be a mathematical certainty but probably just a feeling. What should I do?
