About The Artwork

Because of its deliberately misleading composition and lighting, it could almost be a baroque or rococo painting from the 18th century, set on an aristocratic veranda with the woman awaiting party guests that never arrive. But instead it depicts a 21st-century working-class Persian migrant escaping the restrictions of Covid isolation by having a ‘Feast of Friends’ alone surrounded by urban nature in Hampstead Pergola and Gardens, awaiting guests who never arrive because they were never invited. Instead her appreciation of urban green beauty spots and affinity for nature are best enjoyed alone.
