About The Artwork

As an architect I developed the urban planning concept for the Rheinauhafen, Cologne. Among the most famous buildings are the so called crane houses – in cooperation with star architect and designer Hadi Teherani who designed also the Fernbahnhof. For me, NEXUS is an ideal and comprehensive term for referring to my artistic concept as well as my very own technique of photographic processing, where I make plastic interweaving with photographic material cut into strips. The woven fabric on the one hand creates the distribution of the photographic motif in the surface; on the other hand it questions the photographic image. In cases where two or more motifs are structured, cut and intertwined, the track seems to be lost, but only to come to a unifying image statement. The visual and haptic representation is subject to different structural methods. Regular weave with a slight infidelity is used as well as irregular wickerwork. Sometimes the pictures look almost flat and the next work surprises us with a deep, living relief that seems to move out of the frame.
