Festival of Lights: 2 - Limited Edition of 10 Photograph

This is the second image that's survived my phone from Lower Hutt's "Festival of Lights." It was a lot of fun to wander around the various installations, I know that Lower Hutt has never looked so good. There is a lot to be said for "art for art's sake" installations, or "happenings" as they used to call them in the sixties, -it does the spirit of a place good to recognize that life is beautiful -or -it can be -if we make the effort to make it so. I'm all for that -making the effort to make this world a little more beautiful. Purple is one of my "favourite" colors, although it does seem a little silly for an artist to have a "favourite" color, I can't deny there are some colors that I "vibe with" more readily than others. These shades are Amaranth, Antique Fuchsia, and Blue Violet. The background color is Columbia Blue. This was just a happy accident that I managed to snap, most of my photographs are, as I much prefer to rely on the spirit of "The Moment" ~to capture something unplanned is (for me) the greatest satisfaction. I generally don't like "staged" art very much, I think that the raw beauty of nature is more appealing when it is uncontrived, there is (of course) nothing wrong with giving nature "a little eye shadow" now and then, to create a little "new magic" in the familiar, and add some mystery and mystique to the mundane. I often despise the artificial and artifice, although I love the juxtaposition of the natural and the human-made here, coming together to create a new experience. It is a "multimedia" work in itself, which I happened to capture, without a plan to do so. It's the serendipity of life (and art) that is the most fun.
