What can you see if you don't peek inside, into the room, through the glass, but instead, let your gaze slide over its surface? Abstract patterns, flashes of color, multiplied faces, the overlay of the interior onto the exterior of the street, a combination of inside and outside simultaneously. And suddenly, amidst all this chaos, there's a distinct hand. Or a glance. Or a flower. This is exactly what I try to capture with my camera when shooting works in this series.

Mari Saxon, fine art photographer, architect. Mari was born in Moscow. In 2022, she moved to the Massachusetts, USA. By education and profession, she has been an architect for over 25 years. Honors: 2024 • URBAN Photo Award (Semifinalist, single image) • HIPA (Finalist Black and White Category, single image) • Critical Mass Top 200 Photolucida (Finalist) • Nominated emerging photographer of the Hamburg Portfolio • Belfast Photo Festival 2024 (Shortlisted, project) • Fine Art Photography Awards FAPA (Nominee in Portrait category, single image) • Fine Art Photography Awards FAPA (Nominee in Conceptual Category, project) 2023 • Russian Photo Awards (Top 100, single image) 2019 • Grant for learning course of Sergey Maximishin “Photographer as a Storyteller” Mari always adores noticing the absurdity and surrealism in everyday life, as if reality lifts the edge of its curtain for her, and through this gap, she sees the backstage of the scenery. Equally, she always observes the unnoticed unusual facets in people around her. The individuality of each person fascinates her, and when she notices something special, she can't wait to capture it. Gradually, Mari started creating an absurd reality in her photographs: her attic turns into a fairy-tale world, her models stand on their heads in high-heeled boots, and she herself turns into a multifaced mythical figure in self-portraits. Mari's works are surreal, symbolic, fabulous, often absurd. They don’t impose their own narrative; there is no obvious plot. Everyone can see their own story in them. The most stirring goal for Saxon is to engage the viewer in a dialogue through her art.
