About The Artwork

Switzerland in wintertime. After being fascinated by this photo for a long time, I realized that it looks a lot like how I'd imagine the afterlife. A bit like that end shot in Tarkovsky's Nostalghia, where the little farm is in the cathedral - the main character is dead and finally home. Shot with a Canon 5d markII

I'm a painter, somewhere between photography and oil paint, between classical painting and abstract expressionism. Part of my work is conceptual. I studied at the AKI Enschede, mixed media (Netherlands) and the Rijksacadamy in Amsterdam (postgrad, painting). Later I did some more research (classical painting, color theory, optics). I want to find out how perception works and how we construct it out of a sense for meaning. Light and darkness is my main theme, also how that used to work in the darkroom. Analogue photography printing reminded me of memory and how memories are re-creations of the initial experience. I admire Andrej Tarkovsky, his work, attitude and words.
