About The Artwork

Originally shot as part of a commission for a feature on historic film locations in New York City but never actually used. I based the idea for the image on historic black and white images from the early twentieth century. The idea was to treat the digital images in a way that resembled dark room toning techniques from that time. This one simulates a Gold toning process. I was a traditional darkroom practitioner for many years and although it has taken a while to get the look and feel of the original film and darkroom treatments this comes close. The Digital image is 24" x 14.31” including the white boarder but can be same size image can also be printed on larger sized paper if needed, please email for details.

He has also been a regular contributor to Food and Travel Magazine since 1997 as well as book publishers Hamlyn Books, Mitchell Beasley and Random House. Since 2012 Gary has led photography tours in Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, combining his passion for travel and his commitment to helping others develop their photographic skills. Of his work Gary says; "I see my work as being in the Romantic tradition. My work has been described as cinema-graphic, otherworldly and emotionally charged. I love to take pictures, I'm interested in people, culture, society and a sense of place. I travel a lot and I am a romantic of sorts. I was once described as having a 19th Century sensibility. Maybe that is because I like nostalgia, found things and a touch of fantasy. My aim is to find magic in the everyday."
