About The Artwork

Polyptych. "BELLUM" project. 90x90x3 cm. Photo encaustic. 12 images on wooden board 24x18x1,5 cm. 2019. Limited edition.  Technique: The work is a photograph transferred on wooden board and afterwards processed with an encaustic of natural waxes and natural resins. The board is of poplar wood size 90x90x1,5 cm and are glued 12 plates with 24x18x1,5 cm photographs. The Hecatoncheires or Centimanes were figures of Greek mythology. They were sons of Uranus and Gaia. The Hecatoncheires were giants and there were three of them, named Cottus, Briareus and Gyges. Each of them had one hundred arms and fifty fire-spitting heads. Their father, who feared their strength, threw them into Tartarus, the most remote and dark part of the underworld, together with the Cyclopes, their brothers. From here they were freed by Zeus to fight the rebel Titans, other sons of Uranus and Gaia. With their hundred hands they each took a hundred stones and threw them at the Titans. With such a shower of stones from above and with the help of the Cyclopes the Titans were defeated.

Mine is a continuous search for synthesis between form and content, ethics and aesthetics. My works are emotional photographs, surreal, black and white, seemingly monochrome, or with strong colors, with a large presence of black and dark tones. In recent years they have increasingly incorporated a variety of materials since for me, materials such as paper, woods, beeswax, natural varnishes and whatever else is useful are very important, because they give physicality, depth and tactility to my photographs.  With the aesthetic and formal expression, in my works, is mixed a strong conceptual elaboration, because I know I do not tell an objective reality but rather show stories of people, concepts and worlds as I feel them through the filters of my experience, my culture and my feeling. In addition, each of my cycles of work is a visual transposition of themes that I have been passionate about and have studied for months or years. It is a way for me to put my knowledge on paper and my need to share it. No less important to me is the presence of a deep and constant research on the relationship between the photographer and the camera and the entire photographic process.
