About The Artwork

I came across this beautiful creature whilst out Mountain Biking on the local Hills. Used to graze the poor pasture and moorland habitat, I found this handsome animal studying me. I love the shaggy coat and long fringe, which are characteristic of this ancient breed of cow, along with the long horns - which lend a degree of menace to this good tempered breed. Thankfully this one was no threat whatsoever and allowed me to snap away with one of the cameras I always carry with me. I chose this shot as I like the juxtaposition between the shaggy coated Highland Cow and the tangle of the Beech Tree branches in the background.

Artist and Photographer from the UK with a love of creativity and a passion for the outdoors and wildlife. Given an old bellows type camera at the age of eight and my love of light and capturing images grew from there, using B&W and Colour Film, learning to process and print in Darkrooms and over the years adapting to the changes in technology. Inspired by the works of numerous artists, including Turner, Van Gogh and Hockney, and having had the pleasure of viewing original works in galleries around the world, it was inevitable that I extended my creativity to drawing and painting. I choose to work in a variety of different mediums, including graphite and coloured pencils, watercolours, acrylics and soft pastels - with subject matter ranging from portraits (human and animal) to landscapes and more abstract pieces. I will often have a number of pieces on the go at any one time and feel that working in a variety of mediums helps to keep things fresh, a break from one detailed piece could mean working more freely with expressive brush strokes on another for instance. I am inspired by the world around me and from my travels, I produce my own original works and work on commissions too.
