Highway Code 2/3 Photograph

After an extensive project focusing on ancient Roman roads in Italy, I was fascinated to see what our own archaeological legacy will be, especially when disassociated from the visual language or codes we obey everyday: give way, don’t park here, cross this line at your peril, don’t stop and other commands we instinctively obey. The double yellow line has such power in controlling our daily behaviour and in these images I seek to examine the visual implications as if we had just discovered such marks painted below the lunar surface. Some of these images were made within 100 metres of my studio, others record journeys in Europe and the USA. Everywhere the power of a symbol is the same
