About The Artwork

A very early example of modern fine art color. At that time few people were specializing in color. I was. In fact, some call me a pioneer of the medium. In any case, this image is an abstraction with a hoist and orange wall. I was influenced by Siskind, but his work is much more abstract and close up. I had to work further away because my lens would not permit macro images. The result was my style where I mostly photographed objects in front of abstract subjects. This is a perfect example of that style. Photographed in a shipyard in Kingston, NY, in 1973 with a medium format Rolleiflex camera and Ektachrome transparency film. It is very clear an sharp. The print is a perfect new one, printed by me, the photographer, made on 22"X17" Epson Exhibition Fiber paper with archival pigment inks which have a longevity in excess of 100 years. There is a border on the left and right of 1 inch and a border on the top and bottom of 3.5 inches. It is one of an edition of 10 plus two artist's proofs. It is titled and numbered on the lower left, and signed and dated on the lower right, in archival pen. A certificate of authenticity signed by the artist is provided. The print is shipped in a sturdy mailing tube interleaved with glassine and sealed in a plastic envelope.

BLACK FRIDAY SALE ON MY WEBSITE https://russmartinandmarciamartin.com Mr. Martin is a citizen of the USA, having been born in upstate New York State and spending his youth in the small rural village of Clinton. Because of this exposure, and frequent trips to their summering spot in the Adirondack Mountains, nature became a part of him. Naturally, it would become expressed though his art, which was inspired by his father, a part time professional photographer and amateur watercolor painter. When he was young, professional cameras were ever present, as well as a fully equipped darkroom. There was a mystique about photography, and "that place", that he wanted to know, so he convinced his father to teach him. Thus began a life long career as a fine art photographer. Later, he went on to study fine art photography at college, and earn an MFA in photography so as to be able to teach photography on the college level, have time to produce his work, and earn a living from what he loved. He was a fine art photography teacher for over thirty years, and is now retired, having done so in 2008, to concentrate full time on his work. Over the years, Mr. Martin has won numerous awards and feature articles have been published about him in national and international publications. Recently, his pictures have been featured in the UK, Australia, and the USA. His flora images of hosta plants have won first place awards in the Prix de la Photographie, Paris, the International Photography Awards (The Lucies), and the International Garden Photographer of the Year.
