HOLDING A SPEAR - Limited Edition 1 of 1 Photograph

This piece is from the series PORTRAITS FROM FUTURES PAST. It is an archival digital print that has been painted with acrylics and brush pens. It is one of a kind. The original digital photograph was made in Mexico and is of a pre Hispanic figurine. I have photographed these figurines several times in Mexico and they have always had a powerful affect on me. They seem both ancient and futuristic at the same time. I never wanted to just document them but rather to hop on, climb inside, and see where they might take me. Back in my studio I manipulated the image in my computer, made this one print and then deleted the manipulated file. I then painted the resulting print with acrylics and brush pens. Lastly I created the frame inspired by the folk art that I have seen all over Mexico and Central America using recycled materials.
