About The Artwork

'British Gothic - I Hear Rwanda is Lovely This Time of Year' - was created to invite the viewer to explore and question the narrative in focus. Holding a magnifying glass on to modern British Society. I have taken a well known image and reimagined it using the features of two well known politicians (Boris Johnson and Priti Patel). I wanted to explore this concept of insular Britain. The eschewing of traditional British moral values (Democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs), a shift from collaborative problem solving to a rewriting of the playbook. A return to witch hunts, Bogeyman and ritual human sacrifice. This piece was exhibited at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2022 and was chosen as a top pick by both Fair Director Lizzie Glendinning and renowned British Artist Gavin Turk.

Sarah is a contemporary British multimedia artist, her work is characterised by playful layering and colour, inviting the viewer to explore and question the narrative in focus. The dreamlike quality of both her painting and digital collage work creates a balance between the real and the surreal, transporting us to a different reality. Sarah is particularly interested in exploring the relationship between the natural world and one’s own internal landscape, how our thoughts, feelings and inner dialogues are reflected in the environment around us. Sarah successfully exhibited at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022 and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2022, where her piece was selected as a Top Pick by artist Gavin Turk and Fair director Lizzie Glendinning. She has work held in collections nationally and internationally.
