In portraits, the gesture is a fundamental component. Here, it is understood that the woman has a cell phone in her hand, with whom she is taking a selfie, even if the object does not appear. Just a few years ago, nobody could understand this gesture. Today, thanks to cell phones, we can not only call, but also photograph, and it has become a habit to communicate through the sharing of images that tell us. It is almost like a necessity. Man has always felt the need to tell about himself. Thanks to digital, we can change reality and make it more interesting, and therefore the Pelican here would represent the chimera that photography offers us through techniques such as photomontage. I was born in Spain in 1976. I am a self-taught photographer based in Milan where I graduated in Foreign Languages and Literature. I have always had a great passion for art – I grew up surrounded by paintings and mirrors in my parents’ shop – and I initially expressed myself through painting. When I discovered photography in 2014 however, it became the medium through which I preferred to convey my inner world. I consider myself more of an artist than a photographer. Since 2016, I have exhibited my works in group exhibitions and solo shows, both in Italy and abroad. My work has been published in several magazines including the new Yorker Mystery Tribune (Spring 2019) and included on web bloggers’ pages such as Barbara Picci. The idea that life and dreams are made of the same substance is at the heart of my work, and it is necessarily the soul of my images. The mechanism of photomontage looks like the process of a dream and, in the same way, I pick up the pieces of reality and put them back together in order to create new worlds and situations that would otherwise be impossible.
