Portraits of the spirit of the land. ABOUT THIS IMAGE: As the sun sets behind my garden, I watch my balloon flower carefully. The sun has to be just right to bring out the deep purple of this beauty. Too much sun and it washes out, too late and the purple goes too red. I wait, sitting silently, observing how the color is so dependent on the location of sun; the camera sees the difference so much better than the naked eye. Who else might be sitting out right now, watching the sun set on the multitude of flowers? Finally! In this (very short) window of time, the majestic overtones speak of spirit, peace and dreams of tranquility . . . well worth the wait. NOTES FROM THE ARTIST: My photographs are all “straight from the camera”. They are authentic; they are real. My decisions of composition, exposure, and motion are all made at the moment that the shutter is pressed using ONLY natural daylight and surrounding natural plants for background colors and composition. No filters have been used, no retouching or recropping has been involved; no color enhancement of any kind. To do so would defeat what I work so hard to do: truthfully portray to you the beauty and love that exist all around us. You would not believe me if I did it any other way. I am driven by an unending passion to see the moment in which spirit shines through the camera; to be the lucky one to witness that moment and be skilled enough to bring it to light for all of us.
