About The Artwork

When you want to paint and yet you photograph and the photograph actually turns out to be a painting... Part of the series "Questions of Travel". London International Creative Competition Questions of Travel Prize : Finalists in Shoot (photo/video) Artist : Frank Verreyken Reading Elizabeth Bishops' poetry, I started thinking/working about traveling. Why do we travel? Do we have a real goal? What do we actually see? Traveling and especially mass tourism have become somewhat apocalyptic. Long before the covid 19 period, I saw the mercilessness of an increasingly surrealistic form of tourism: far, rare, original, expensive. The actual intention of traveling, getting to know and respecting cultures, had become a factor that was completely neglected. These photos are the opposite of the polished tourist photos. The blurriness of the photos is a metaphor for non-viewing. The modern itinerant man is not able to look as it should. At the same time, I discovered the poetry of Elizabeth Bishop. Her poem “Questions of Travel” fitted in seamlessly with this. - LIMITED EDITION #1 TO 6 - With certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist and numbered. - Location: Normandy, France - Original will be printed on a very beautiful Hahnemühle art paper. - This work will be shipped rolled in a secure tube. - Please feel free to ask about other sizes: more formats available. - More info about the artist: www.frankverreyken.com

Frank Verreyken (b. 1954, Belgium). I live and work in Antwerp, Belgium. I’m a painter and a photographer. I don't follow a set line, and am not turned in a certain style. I am detached from all pigeonholes. I always create my work from a desire to create. That desire can be emotionally or intellectually driven. The form itself is subject to that specific, immediate desire. Whether it's photographic work, charcoal, or paint, it doesn't matter. My integrity is always there because I don't make work to please. I am always grateful that people, from all over the world, sense, appreciate, and respect that. I participated in several group and solo exhibitions all over the world : London, Washington, Santa Monica, Budapest, Los Angeles, Milan, Berlin, Brussels, Dresden (see : exhibitions) Collectors bought my work from the USA, Canada, South Africa, Germany, Austria, Holland, Belgium, and France www.frankverreyken.com
