About The Artwork

1234NYC is a personal 10 year photography project I have undertaken that follows the lives of 40 New Yorkers whom I am connected to on a professional and/or personal level. All persons I have chosen for 1234NYC are "creative professionals" and/or small business owners who either live, work or go to school in Manhattan. How's it work? This project began in Autumn of 2007 and will end in Autumn of 2017. The series is divided into the numbers in the title, 1234, which establishes the year(s) I photograph them. For example: in 1234 (or think of it as 1+2+3+4) the groups are.. (1) = 2007 to 2008 (Autumn to Autumn) (2) = 2009 to 2010 (3) = 2012-2013 (4) = 2016-2017

My father gave me a camera, an old Canon F-1. I couldn't put it down. The result of this is that I graduated in 2000 from the California College of Arts (CCA) under the tutelage of Larry Sultan and Jim Goldberg. My photographs can be found in advertising and editorial: *surface, nylon, Jane, Black Book, New York Times, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, Sunday Times (GB), Visionaire, Adobe, Penthouse, FORM, The Berliner, Microsoft, WYETH Pharmaceuticals, St. Martins Press, URB, HBO Latin America, Ogilvy, are just a few of my clients. - I was one of four photographers chosen by the UCLA FOWLER MUSEUM to participate in a series entitled: DOCUMENT: 2nd Generation Iranian-Americans in Los Angeles. - Recently I was asked to create a "two ferns" photograph for a benefit for 826LA by Judd Apatow and Dave Eggers (after school literacy program). - The design company, Kid Bombay, will be creating a website for my latest project, 1234NYC. 1234NYC is a decade-spanning project to document urban-dwelling individuals employed in creative fields.
