About The Artwork

The photograph depicts a scene of stark functionality and unadorned reality. A makeshift structure, presumably a shelter or workspace, is paired with a trailer emblazoned with a spray-painted message. The script, likely in Hebrew, could indicate a direction or a commercial advertisement, a common practice in many transient or utilitarian spaces. Set against the twilight sky, the scene is imbued with a sense of quietude and anticipation. The shelter, with its front open, suggests a place of gathering or work that is currently at rest. The trailer, resting on blocks rather than wheels, suggests a temporary permanence, a fixture that is neither fully mobile nor permanently fixed. The composition of the photograph — the way the two main elements balance each other, the clear demarcation of land and sky, and the subtle interplay of artificial structures within a vast landscape — encourages reflection on the transient nature of human constructs. This space is one of passage, a waypoint on the journey of commerce or daily life. There's a narrative implied here of life on the margins, the utilitarian aspects of society that go unnoticed, yet are integral to its function. The photo prompts the viewer to consider the stories behind such scenes, the comings and goings, the exchanges that occur within these spaces, and the lives that momentarily converge in such transient settings. As an art critic, one might appreciate this photo for its documentary quality, capturing a snapshot of the mundane yet essential components of human organization and enterprise. It speaks to the broader context of how we shape and are shaped by our environments, and how, within every functional space, there is a story of human endeavor.

Multidisciplinary artist and curator Boris Marinin was born in 1987. Holds a BFA in Screen Arts, and MFA in multidisciplinary arts at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. His artistic process is influenced mainly by self-study, the practice of frustration, and his psychoanalytic analysis. Artists Judith Sasportas, Joseph Beuys, Matthew Barney, and the musical genre Black Metal, inspired artistic decisions and are an integral part of his developmental process. In his art, Marinin tries to differentiate and capture the sublimity of nature using amorphous forms, that do not necessarily relate to the plain material world we know. With his analytical art, Marinin will take us on a journey where we will be exposed to the movement of nature, extinction, and opportunity while uncovering personal interpretations of the connection between an artist and an object in order to show us what lies behind our dimension. Boris Marinin currently lives and works in Vienna, Austria
