ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“Luna” is a stylised and experimental study of lost time. It concentrates on capturing movement, form, and light within 1.3 seconds. (The amount of time taken for light from the moon to reach Earth). The collection is based on the parallel between this crepuscular, non-existent pocket of time, in which we only see the very recent past, and the naivety of infancy. "THREE / TWENTY-FIVE" shows an off centre vertically stretched moon with light-trails leading from the main subject to a ghostly shadow of its former position. Grain and texture give a tangibility to the light decay making the subject appear to lift from the paper. From a far this is a very graphical piece however it can also be appreciated up-close due to the textural nuances and details achieved with the silver-gelatine print process. This process along with Selenium toning allows for incredibly deep and immersive blacks giving the piece a striking contrast. The Luna collection comprises of seven pieces each hand printed using the silver-gelatine print process on heavy weight 300gsm cotton rag; a museum grade, textured, matt fine art paper with a slight ‘eggshell’ sheen measuring 20x24 inches. Prints are then Selenium toned for archival purposes and are signed and numbered on the front by the artist. The final pieces in this chapter were created in 2020/2021. Each piece is a limited edition of 10 (+1AP). Paper size 20"x24" - Printed area 17.7"x21.7".

Photographic artist working with analogue processes. Nottingham, UK. Christopher has worked both as a commercial photographer, and a photographic artist since 2006. During his career he has applied the combined use of graphic design and film making with both digital and analogue photography. He currently works from his darkroom/studio in Nottingham, UK. In 2012, when commissioned to create a small collection of event material, Christopher started to explore the concept of hand-finished graphic pieces. The result was a collection of individual posters, each printed as a one-off on aquarelle rag with elements of the poster removed and remaining artwork offset from a backboard. This concept gave each artwork a depth and movement, capturing light and shadow through the apertures in the piece. The tactility of these pieces instantly became and fascination for Christopher. Combining this love of the hand-finished along with his obsessive hunger for technical photographic knowledge, naturally Christopher has found himself on a path through the analogue print process with a focus on fine-art pieces.
