ART DESCRIPTION --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Majestic Monstera" The two cane stalks in the background anchor the Monstera Deliciosa leaf and add to its overall intensity. So often the angle is wrong, but in this case the open foliage was in full display. I converted to black and white and found a combination of tints that I really liked. It added depth and richness. There’s also movement in the back created by waterfall looking leaves. This subtle and softening affect contrasts well with the more definite punctuation of obscured and elongated holes in the leaf. That randomness that becomes more defined in the leaf’s maturity is what makes this tropical accent so enticing. Brandon LeValley (1954) is a photographic artist from the United States. In 1976 he graduated from Washington State University where his Bachelor’s Degree included Art studies. He’s always had a passion for photography. That desire was fueled early in life when he was still shooting film and utilizing a darkroom to process images. Holding a final print offered a world of experience seeing how the light on a subject materialized. Years later he realized the digital camera had revolutionized processing. Today, he converts most images to black and white and often shoots botanicals for their dramatic lines and shape. He’s also drawn to architecture and landscapes. Living near Joshua Tree National Park provides many dramatic configurations that come from his explorations. While his journey in photography has evolved, it’s often ignited by striking lighting. He’s fascinated by the abstract and uses every tool to achieve a finished composition. A unique image, he believes, comes about by a disciplined and oftentimes exhaustive approach. Knowing the payoff can be rewarding, that commitment to detail ultimately renders a more compelling work.
