About The Artwork

Sometimes you get lucky. It had been rainy earlier in the day. I was actually photographing the Brooklyn bridge but I couldn't get anything I liked so I decided to leave. As I was walking back to the subway the sun broke through the clouds. When I looked up I saw this stunning checkered, art deco reflection of the Manhattan bridge. I print all my own work multiple times with love in order to achieve the look and a print I am happy with. I use the highest quality archival pigment inks, Hahnemühle Photo Rag, 100% cotton Baryta Museum quality, heavy weight 320/gsm fine art paper for highest age resistance to make this beautiful pigment/Giclee print. All of my prints are sprayed with an archival-safe, UV and H2O resistant lacquer to further enhance the life of the photograph. This is a 12"x16" print on 13"x19" A3+ paper with a 1" white border. Which look beautiful in a 16x20 or 18x24 frame. Signed, numbered and stamped on back with certificate of authenticity included. Note: image size and border may vary by a few millimeters due to paper size and aspect ratio.

An ever-moving, ever-changing world is slowed down for contemplation in the photos of New York City native photographer Michael Sofronski. With a career spanning over twenty years, Sofronski is the kind of photographer whose hands feel unbearably empty without his camera. Exploring city streets has been his preferred pastime since growing up in Manhattan, where he honed his characteristic style of street photography from a young age. After studying film at Emerson College and working in Hollywood as a camera assistant, Sofronski brought his eye for film and lighting back to his home of New York City. His prolific and versatile artistic approach has built him a resume of esteemed clients, such as the New York Times, UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, the New Yorker, plus a host of European publications, with years spent as a photographer for Polaris Images, the New York Post, and Sipa Press. Sofronski photographed the food and wine book What to Drink With What You Eat, which won the Georges Duboeuf Wine Book of the Year Award. Today, he is represented by Polaris Images, has been published internationally, and exhibited at the Westbeth Gallery in the Village. Sofronski feels at home behind the camera’s lens, whether photographing celebrities, interiors, street life, news stories, or food. He also shoots film stills for both television and movies. Never having thought he could make a job out of what brought him joy as a child, Sofronski now boasts an extensive career with notable milestones, having photographed countless celebrities, such as Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, to important events, like the attacks on 9/11. Michael Sofronski lives with his wife, son, and their rescue dog Mazie in Brooklyn, New York. Artist Statement I seek balance between the gritty, dark tones in a scene and the illusive streak of light I hope to see splash through. Creating a rich image that offers layers of emotion and energy requires seeing more than just the scene in front of you, but uncovering the subtle elements that go unnoticed. Capturing the determination in a person’s eyes or the shape of sunlight as it washes over a passerby lost in thought brings the depth all around us directly into view. My passion for finding the details in a scene that are easily overlooked pushes me to capture images that invite viewers to experiment with new ways of seeing the world.
