About The Artwork

In an exhibition held in the Sauce Art Center in September, a young female author's photographic work "Marked by fingerrprints-face" attracted the attention of psychologists. Through those unique pictures, we can interpret the dreamlike meanings. Dialogue to the author Reporter: when did you start to create this series of works? How does this idea come to mind? Lin Yin: I started to work at the beginning of this year. At the beginning, I wanted to make some abstract works and made many volumes. Later, I tried to make fingerprints to create on the film, trying to make an abstract effect, but I always felt that there were shortcomings. Later, I realized that only good visual effect is not enough. I should find "prick point" for the work. At last, I thought of using portrait to do processing, because I always like the portrait of close-up. Reporter: for the work with eyes, why do you need to pick the eye lids down with your hands? Lin Yin: because I want to achieve a very strange effect. In Roland Bart's words, "there's no singularity, there's no photo." Reporter: if the eyes and ears in these films can speak, what do you think they can say? Lin Yin: I don't know. They don't want to talk because language is redundant here. Psychoanalysis "Marked by fingerrprints-face" is like a black and white dream. The image is a part of a woman - a downward looking, enlarged eye surrounded by white fingerprints that cover most of the image. I feel that the theme of this work is "commitment and disguise". The author challenges the rules in the way permitted by social rules. Pull down your eyes to represent an unusual form of rebellion, but cover it up with a lot of other things. The author named her work "Marked by fingerrprints-face", which shows her obedience, that is, she agrees to sacrifice and exchange. But at the same time, she weaves a web of her own fingerprints, which may be because she doesn't agree with herself very much, has a struggle in her heart, and can't grasp this emotion. Except for the eyes, the fingerprints on the screen are all white, while the blank ones are all black. Black shows a kind of inner panic and a sense of loss, which may reflect the author's Dilemma and struggle to lose himself. There is always a gap left for the author in the dense fingerrprints, that is, the big eyes in the picture, which is taken by the author with his lower eyelids scratched. The struggle to open his eyes reflects the author's inner need for a breakthrough. It is not hard to see from this movement that the author is working hard to get out of this state and has accumulated a lot of energy. In a word, this work shows that the author is trying to comply with the environment while constantly adjusting himself, but at the same time, he wants to ensure his independence. In fact, she created "one face and the rest of one face". Tips:The photos are exclusively hand-made on photo paper. They are all taken with a Mamiya RB67 camera on 6x7cm black and white film. All works are be signed and labeled with date and corresponding edition number.
