About The Artwork
“Masquerade” is a part of the “Water Metamorphosis” series, an evolving project born in 2016 and composed of a series of self-portraits that explore the concept of life as a staged show, in which we change our masks based on the societal expectations and norms. The series portrays the contrast between the diffused true self, hidden beneath the surface of the many personas, which arise for reasons of adaptation or personal convenience. All effects are achieved in camera by careful manipulation of physics and precise engineering to capture the reflection, the light refraction, and the optical illusion. Your print will be produced to the highest standards, proofed, checked and rolled in a tube. Printed with a 1.5-inch white border on a specially selected archival quality paper. The print comes with an attached tamper-proof certificate of authenticity label and signed by the artist certificate of authenticity. The certificate guarantees your print is a limited artwork only available at the editions stated. It can be attached to the back of the print once framed. Silvia Nikolov is a fine art photographer based in Austin, Texas. Intrigued by the concept of photography as a perceptual experience, not as a snapshot of a particular moment in time, each of my photographs is a capture of an intensely personal emotion, a life-long meditation, a dream brought to reality, a story untold before. As a fine art photographer with a passion for conceptual photography, I translate portraits, landscapes, and cityscapes into an abstract form of art. I enjoy manipulating the available physics when engineering each photograph and am in constant search for the light, the shadow, the vibrancy of color, the reflection, the refraction, the symmetry in the asymmetry. My priority is always to achieve and capture all effects in-camera, limiting post processing to enhancing contrast and color. I rely on the use of water, mirrors, glass, and other reflective materials and surfaces in achieving the desired optical illusion.
