Indigo Sum is a dutch photographer born in 1995, who focusses on pushing the boundaries of his medium and finding new ways to engage with his audience in a deeper sense. First working solemnly in black and white, stating that;‘ I wasn’t capable at the time to incorporate colour in the desired way into my photography. I urged myself to first focus on composition, lighting & technique and develop myself’. And later in his early twenties, exploring the depth of his medium; ‘by leaning more towards abstract compositions it opened up the space to use colour not as a realistic adjective to my work but rather as a way to strengthen the bond with my imagination. It changed from being a distraction into a tool to translate my directions and emotion.' In recent years Indigo Sum has been shifting his work towards abstract expressionism and his goal to form a deeper connection with his audience on an emotional level. Allowing himself to let subconscious emotions take control of the ‘intention’, he explores how our feelings shape the perception of beauty and how it influences the outcome of our creations.
