Mono Lake Moon Rise - Limited Edition of 100 Photograph

Mono lake sits just east of Yosemite . It is one of the oldest lakes in the US, probably over one million years old. These rock Tufas are composed mostly of Calcium Carbonate precipitates. They formed under water at a time when lake levels were much higher in the past and the lake levels were above the tufa tops. This lake is home for many species of birds which raise their young here on brine shrimp and brine flies which live in this extremely salty water from many years of evaporation from this lake that has no outlet. Lake levels have dropped a lot in recent years because of a drying climate and the City of Los Angeles is taking water from the source streams. This is a favorite spot for photographers like myself, especially with an exciting moon rise. Its not unusual to see dozens of photographers with tripods and others waiting patiently along the shore for a super sunset to happen.
