Morning Splendor, Grey House - Limited Edition 1 of 20 Photograph

The remnants of a forgotten family's possessions litter the living room floor of Grey House. This abandoned farm stands alone in the center of a large field near my home in Southwest Michigan. Though the range of items to be found here is staggering, the splendor of the morning light reaching into the damage and decay creates a rich silhouette from the clutter and shines beautiful light on the decrepit ceiling. The junk is upstaged by the intricate patchwork of texture and color the weather has wrought above it. I am captivated by the effects of weather and time on abandoned interiors. Each time I enter an empty house, I am amazed and inspired by the beauty of the layers being stripped away, by the chemistry of the elements and the building materials interacting with each other, as though the wind and rain are painting abstract masterpieces on the dilapidated walls, ceilings, and floors. This image is printed with Epson archival pigment inks on ultra premium Epson paper.
