About The Artwork

I know I'm supposed to be selling a photograph here but... Pinned to the subject's blouse is the inspiration for many of my custom made prints—"The Mortality Broache". Having been meticulously carved from stainless steel allows it a substantial heft in your hand. It is solid as solid gets. With unquestionable reliability as a true workhorse in clasping whatever you need it to clasp repeatedly without material degradation or failure. ie: this pin will not bend or warp after repeated use as would a similar item crafted of silver or other silver alloys. It's durability seems contradictory to it's refined elegance but...durability/staying power is essential to it's concept as wearable art. It may surprise you to know that i crafted it as a symbol of mortality and my awareness thereof—it serves as a constant reminder of the bigger picture, of what's truly important in life, and how very little time we have remaining. And....it looks damn tough in . the process. It's not a biker thing, it's not a rock and roll thing, it's actually quite elegant and refined requiring a certain amount of confidence from the lady it adorns. An object of meaningful adornment is indeed t's essence but in terms of fashion? it's a final piece of polish to a fine suit of clothes or to a ragged t-shirt. One client uses one on each shoe to both tame and adorn her very fashionable boots' laces! I gotta say...it looks so badass within the context of shoelaces! but a true classic on your coat's lapel. Unlike the fragility of our human existence on earth...THIS BABY IS BUILT TO LAST!!! and will be a family heirloom. I hate to sound so sales-ie but this thing has a curious second life / a personality / a duality / in the way it can present you as low-key-grunge-cool-guy or clutching your haute couture during a night at the opera. I know i'm supposed to be selling a photograph here but it's the broache that lit a fire under my ass over a year ago and continues to burn to this day. A great source of inspiration during a time when i thought i had come to the end of my creative self. Hardly. THanks to whatever mojo I released here, I've made over 500 works of art this year. Both image and broache is Action-packed with my personal truths which spawned a succesful body of work titled "Introverts". A glorious box-set showcasing 25 of the coolest women moving and shaking our planet in 2018. The photograph above is one of the 25 portraits in "Introverts"—a seemingly sensual, softspoken, reserved, professional woman but who kicks ass and takes names in relentless pursuit of leaving a mark on her world. A spirit of a bengal tiger she has come to represent the complexities and contradictions of us, our existence and for the mortality broache itself: she knows who she is, what she wants, and will kick your ass should you become an obstacle on her path. Or I suppose she could use her broache as a weapon to stab anyone who crosses her :-) The synthetic archival substrate adds curiosity to this image. There is a heft, a weight to this photograph that feels tangible and lasting. It also being tough as nails but sensually-soft. Ink saturates it as though it were a fine acrylic painting. Can you tell I'm sorta GaGa over it? :-) I am, This one is going to be hard to let go—and it needs a good home. I'd like to professionally frame it for you and inscribe it's more detailed personal story on verso. If you'd rather own the stainless steel broache? We can work it out in another posting. FF
