My photo-based practice stems from that personal experience, which I have moved or transferred among many different types of places and spaces since my childhood. In other words, I moved from a small town to Beijing, then I moved to Wisconsin, Texas, and finally NYC in the order. Those sudden changes of places prompt me to create a balanced space of both comforts and feelings of security in photographs. Inspiring by the French concept "flaneur" and confused temporal and spatial relationships, I am currently creating the East-West joint photographic space for young immigrants included me after taking education in the States. There are eight movie theaters used to exist in Chinatown of NYC, those movie theaters only showed Chinese language movies during that time. The theaters were the only community and entertainment for early Chinese immigrants seeking own comforts. However, those theaters are all closed down around two decades ago. I stimulated to play a movie of academic buildings composed of installations of letter-size of traditional Chinese rice paper and gold paper "at" those former theaters.
