About The Artwork
Cottonwoods are one many things that draw me to the Midwestern US and the Plains. They trees huddle around water sources on an often-otherwise flat and featureless landscap. They lend themselves gracefully to portraiture. And in flood plains like this one, they thrive and interact with one another until they topple and die, and spawn new life. They're primeval, and I love 'em. My images are beholden to the many modernist and abstract photographers who conjured startling beauty from mundane sites and materials. Beauty without sentimentality is what I aim for.
