About The Artwork

Architecture is a feminine noun. Despite the concrete and materiality of its nature, it is concretized by the abstraction of the experience it provides, by the details, the atmosphere, and the play between lights and shadows built by its gaps and transparencies. In my experience, architectural space is also a place of affection. In this sense, my search is, almost always, to displace my images from their context and provide the viewer with a visual and poetic journey, with minimal information. My photographs are suggestions, creations of new visual spaces from the concrete referent. I do not photograph the building, I explore its forms in a personal and delicate way, I do not fight to fit it into the limits of a frame, I dance with it, I create tensions until we find a perfect fit. There is no imposition in the intangible moment of creation. I follow these steps: looking, understanding, conflict resolution and construction, until the corporeality of the image. Artist Bia Serranoni's main theme in her work is to challenge the limits of the media she works with, photography. B.A. in Photography from Centro Universitário Senac in São Paulo, the city where she lives and works. In her series we can perceive a common element, the architectural spaces, which assume a specific role in each one: the configuration of an experience, of its interior or of real or imaginary memories. With her non-figurative works, the artist invests in the idea of a non-linear time-space. Influenced by the aesthetics and precepts of the concrete movement (SP) and neoconcrete movement (RJ), the photographer bets on the universality of forms and the power of abstractions as complex perceptive elements that propose a contemplative relationship with the image. In the last years Bia Serranoni has participated in several International Photography Festivals, has participated in group exhibitions and publications, and was nominated as a finalist in the Tokyo International Foto Awards. In the year 2023, the artist was invited to make a site specific at Fundação Cidade das Artes in Rio de Janeiro, holding a solo exhibition inside the institution.
