About The Artwork

^ Click on Prints (next to where it says Original) to see the print prices ^ A long walk along the banks of the River Thames to see the Golden Hinde and the Tower of London was the inspiration for this picture. The architecture, river, bridges and city sights made the walk very interesting, and I wanted to capture a nautical theme with the ship, the old wharf buildings and sailing history. My picture attempts to capture the experience of the walk and its many sights by using a cubist composition of several views, much like you would in real life. My artwork explores the cross-overs between photography, collage, digital art and cubist paintings as a way of capturing memories and imagination. The pictures are created using a pen and ink style digitally, based upon my own photographs, and are printed with high-definition inks on stretched canvas. The rectangular grid structure was chosen to reflect the angular shapes of the city buildings. The ship is at an angle to reflect the unstable nature of the water. The bright colour scheme was chosen to bring an energetic element into the picture representing a vibrant trading city life. Impressionist principles like abstraction, false colour and a line and ink style were used to help the viewer imagine the scene, rather than pictorial realism characteristic of traditional photographs.

I help bring interest to interior spaces through creative and dramatic fine art pictures. I have been a creator all my life from a childhood with construction toys and later as a professional engineer. Having been gifted my first camera in 1969, I have maintained an interest in photography since then, studying the subject more seriously in recent years. I specialise in capturing ordinary subjects and making them extra ordinary using closeups, lighting, colour or editing to help create mood, inspiration, or interesting talking points. I have a passion for taking time to notice the natural beauty that surrounds us, from the depths of space to the small creatures sharing our lives. In my work I try to encourage the viewer to see the ‘everyday’ in a new light by emphasising the extraordinary nature of its complexity or including it an arrangement to suggest an idea or a concept.
