About The Artwork

The woman starring into the light is part of Sebastian Siebel's infamous Transition Loss series, which exhibited all over Europe and is an ongoing production in Berlin. The power of the female completely dominates the photography and represents the self confidence of a woman the audience never sees full frontal. Only the assertive posture gives us a few hints about the character and her own story. Edition 1/5 The surreal moment, the playfulness between lightness and dark matter, the complete lack of a background story creates a momentum of drama. People, from a distance, seem from a world in between. Sebastian Siebel's production sets are always intense, created over a long period and with a team of set builders, assistants and many actors and actresses. The photographies, although happening on the streets or in abandoned factories and public buildings, are far away from quick street photographies. Moreover everything you see on set is handcrafted during the creative process. In "Transition Loss" things are happening, stories will be continued. People are in the centre, but part of a much larger emotion: the transition from one place to another. Every photography he creates is part of a long journey and influenced by more than a decade long work as the lighting artist for the greatest photographers & cinematographers of all time: Michael Ballhaus & Peter Lindbergh, Annie Leibovitz and Jim Rakete, Mario Testino and Glen Luchford. Printed on Alu-Dibond. Large Format. High Quality Photography.

Sebastian Siebel is an artist with over 3 decades of experience in photography, film, lighting design and fine art. Searching for the surreal in reality, the mystical human momentum. His artworks always shimmer between the light and darkness, the reality and the myth. He creates stories with an intense atmosphere of the unknowing. Large size photographies foil-clad onto aluminium Dibond panels are his chosen medium for most of his artworks. As a lighting artist he worked together with some of the greatest photographers and cinematographers of all time: Michael Ballhaus, Annie Leibovitz, Peter Lindbergh and many more. Since then he is a well known international creative consultant based in Berlin.
