This print features the playful relationship between natural forms and botanicals. In this image Erin uses the natural composition of the purple flowers, and her own collage work, to create a hypnotic mandala with the floral. Some describe it as a kaleidoscope effect. The flower was photographed against a black background which serves as a dramatic and supportive contrast to the botanicals. This piece is part of a new collage project called "The Nocturnals". They are a series of large scale photographs where Erin, working with mindfulness for lighting and composition, builds wholly new imagery using botanicals and natural objects. The results are at once familiar and strikingly unfamiliar. Of the earth yet other worldly. The images are bold, sensual and effervescent with light and color. Amazingly, they are concrete and ethereal simultaneously. And always there is a strong sense of the atmospheric. The prints are of the highest gallery quality, printed on Canson Photo Rag Bright White 310 paper. They are striking up close with so much detail, and a bold statement viewed from a distance. The paper is delicate, so framing under glass is highly recommended. Various framing options available. This is a limited edition of 50, signed print. It will arrive un-framed and shipped in a tube with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Erin’s recent fine art work has won multiple awards, including Prix de Photography Paris Bronze winner, and was chosen to be published in the AI-AP American Photography annual book. Her commercial work is widely published, including Architectural Digest, Epoca Magazine, House Beautiful as well as commissions for Donna Karan, Herman Miller, Gensler, Duralee, and Michael Aram. Erin Derby (b.1975. San Jose, CA) graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BA in both Film and Latin American & Iberian Studies. Her early career was primarily photojournalism. Over time she evolved a fine art cynosure balanced with considerable commercial photography success. In the latter, she continues to do corporate portraiture, interiors and still-life work. Her early fine art work explored expired 4x5 polaroid and 35mm film, with its painterly quality. The strong imperfections of these aged mediums as well as their eroded hues communicated an ethereal quality to her botanical images. In her more recent work, Reimagining Nature, she has returned to botanicals. Working digitally and with her unique mindfulness for lighting and detail, she builds wholly new imagery. These results are at once familiar and strikingly unfamiliar. Of the earth yet other worldly. The images are bold, sensual and effervesce with light and color. Amazingly, they are concrete and ethereal simultaneously. And always there is a strong sense of the atmospheric. Erin Derby lives in Brooklyn, NY.
