ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I have been in June 2021 for a late evening walk in the Carburn Park in Calgary. i discovered this beaver swimming firstly in the lake towards the shore, where he was munching on grass and woody plants. Did you know? *The North American beaver (Castor canadensis) is one of two extant beaver species, along with the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber). Beavers are active mainly at night. They are excellent swimmers and may remain submerged up to 15 minutes. More vulnerable on land, they tend to remain in the water as much as possible. The beaver's fur consists of long, coarse outer hairs and short, fine inner hairs. The fur has a range of colors, but usually is dark brown. Scent glands near the genitals secrete an oily substance known as castoreum, which the beaver uses to waterproof its fur. As one of the national symbols of Canada, the North American beaver is depicted on the Canadian nickel(Canadian five-cent coin).
