North Beach #2 - Limited Edition of 8 Photograph

This photo features an area of North Beach, part of Drakes Beach on the west coast of the Point Reyes National Seashore, a peninsula of over 71,000 acres, in California, northwest of San Francisco. Drakes beach gets its name from Sir Francis Drake, a sea captain/privateer/pirate in the employ of Queen Elizabeth I. Rumor - myth - has it that he supposedly made landfall here for ship repairs while exploring the coast between 1577 and 1580. Shortly after Drake's visit the Spanish explorer Sebastian Vizcaino named the cliffs on the western edge, "la punta de los Reyes," meaning "the point of kings, now called just "Point Reyes." The peninsula is a combination of prairies, grasslands, forests, streams, wetlands, marshes, swamps, long beaches and dairy farms. The area is immense, raw, and in many parts wild, carved by nature’s winds and driving rains. It is also majestically beautiful and awe inspiring, making one feel full of life and at the same time very small. I love this place, especially the beaches where the sea comes in with freight train force, periodically changing the face of the land. This is a limited edition print, one of eight, a 12 x 18 inch archival pigment photographic print with satin finish and one inch border, unmounted. Signed, dated and numbered on front.
