Somewhere in the middle of nowhere

It is late evening when I come across this scene on my way home in a forest in Scotland. As if enchanted, the long past lies before me, I feel today and already suspect tomorrow. If a magician had tapped me on the shoulder from behind, I would not have been surprised. Nature has created a profound still life in which every detail delights. Old, thick tree trunks intersect with young ones and yet others that have gnarly found their place in the somewhere. Already faded and completely overgrown with ferns and moss are reflected in the water. How long have I been standing here?

Standstill or movement?

In this beautiful arrangement, the events of time seem to have overlapped. Is the present today? Was it yesterday? Is what we see even real? Even the water, actually an epitome of movement and discontinuity, seems to remain motionless. And yet everything is in motion, although one can sense the timeless eternity.

Where do we stand?

Where do we stand in this seemingly chaotic world? Are we possibly deceived by our manipulated gaze? We look for the mistake and yet every element is exactly in the correct moment where it belongs. The harmony, even in the colors, is perfect. But where do we stand?

Make this window of time yours!

The work, in balanced tones and its unique formal language, presents a window of time in which unadulterated nature seems to have stopped the passage of time, only to show us that everything is nevertheless in constant flux.
Couldn't we all do best with an oasis of calm, of timelessness, of eternity? This composition touches and makes everyone pause. How long already? How much longer? Does it matter? Perhaps for all time...

My photographic stagings explore nature, time, and spirituality. I work with these three factors in my photographic practice and draw my inspiration from them. Everything in the material world is created, then remains for a while and will eventually vanish again. The greatest way to observe these three manifestations is in nature. Philosophically this subject is summarized in the Vedic scriptures under the term Guna. For me, artistic inspiration has utmost significance and has a great influence on my creative processes. Therefore, I stage my motives with the help of light and colors, and above all with the connecting tool of time. Time cannot be influenced, it is quasi autonomous, incorruptible and at the same time a connecting element. On my first trip to India in 2004, the following statement from a holy scripture inspired me to create works such as Vibrations, Spiritual Stairs, Dimension Door: “To show them special mercy, I, who dwell in their hearts, destroy with the shining torch of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.” I'm working and living in Berlin. Before in 2002 I finished a professional training as a photographer I was active in the graffiti scene. I won renowned photo prizes and got a lot attention with my early fire drawings, which I written into nightscapes like self-portraits, as well as landscape portraits reflecting on human and nature as phenotypes. 2013 I have shown my work „Coming back from Yamuna River“ to 55th Venice Biennale. 2017 I had two big museum shows mainly concentrated on my photographs done in India. India affected me, my workflow and made me think about human life.
