She wasn't a portraitist, while she was taking a very interesting portraits; she wasn't a street photographer, while of course she couldn't resist from shooting at New York streets. But she was mostly a story teller. Making lot of installation. Every time, when she took a camera, she started to create her own story. She almost never take a single pictures, most of photographs were in sequence, showing some form of transition or transformation. Pretty often people at her work are absent, but her photographs capture the remnants of their existence: the books, the furniture, the dishes. They are beautifully composed, lyrical still lifes, in which eccentricities are lovingly noted. Her images reflect her feelings and memories about certain places and times. She examines everything around her, and when something catches her eye, she reflects on it, and transforms it into an image. Her pictures are often partial re-stagings of something she observed. She also experimented a lot with printing, combine the images into collage, using few enlargers, implicating one image inside the other. Ethel Virga, New York Photographer and artist.
